ST. THOMAS – MAGENS BAY

Our last island stop was on St. Thomas.  This island is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands & is really beautiful & put together. You can absolutely tell the difference in quality of life from this island to other British/French Islands.  It’s kind of sad to know the other Islands do not have the support of the major country that owns them or they’re so corrupt that the money from tourism doesn’t go back to the people…. But enough of that.

It was a gorgeous day as we loaded into the open-air buggies that took us to St. Thomas. The island is quite hilly but the drive to Magens Bay was beautiful.  We went up and down and up and down and saw some amazing sites as we climbed the hills.

When we arrived, we all had to pay $5 to enter the bay.  I thought this was a good idea to help keep the bay clean and staffed.  There is a concession stand there and there are a few girls who walk the beach taking drink orders.  Some of our friends ordered drinks and it did take a looong time for them to get the drinks.

We chose a spot far down the shore away from the crowds and camped out for the day.  The sun was brutal here. Being our last stop we all had a lot of sun and here there was no real shade on the beach… but you could always move back toward the palm trees or under a pavilion.

Magens Bay was very serene, peaceful and relaxing.  Some of us napped, others floated in the water and we all kind of did our own thing to suit us. At some point we all ended up back in the water and enjoyed each other conversation.  It really felt like a good chill last stop before embarking home.

Later in the day the clouds moved in and we did end up getting rained on, but no one cared. We still hung out in the water as showers passes us and cloud rolled by.

When we got hungry we decided to head back to the open-air taxis and visit the shops at the port once again before getting on the ship.
