North Michigan Overview

In the summer of 2018 – Ricky and I joined his friend Joe and, fiancé at the time Libby, for a family reunion in Gaylord Michigan. From bear hunts, to Joe’s cool family and even Mackinac Island – it was pretty awesome.

Our timeline was August 3rd-6th which meant weather was perfect up there.

  • August 3rd – Bear Hunt
  • August 4th – Family Reunion
  • August 5th – Mackinac Island
  • August 6th – Drive home
Drive time to Gaylord was about 6 hours and it’s a cute little town. One thing about driving in Michigan is their highways up north seem so private, you can’t tell when you’re getting off the exit if this is a farm town or a bustling little area. There is a cute section of the Main Street in Gaylord that had a block or two of shops.

Another cool thing about Gaylord is they have an Elk Viewing Park! I have never seen an Elk in my life so it was super cool to see them so close and touch their antlers… they were soft and fuzzy and just not what I was expecting! A cool viewing park if you are in that area. It was also free – which is my favorite.

It was also cool because once you got out of the main town – it was straight country! Lots of places it seems to go for hikes or enjoy nature around there.

We had a ton of fun just hanging out with Joe and Libby and their family and extended family! It’s a good thing I’m outgoing in a situation where I knew three out of 100 people.
