Traverse City and Torch Lake

Our last full day we took a drive to Torch Lake and obviously had to actually go into Traverse City.

To start, we went up the east side of Torch Lake and stopped at a little park we found in order to fly the drone. You couldn’t see much of the lake on this drive but I think the southern tip you could see more. What I will say is if you’ve ever been to Lake Tahoe – this water is JUST AS clear just with no boulders. Sometimes it looked straight brown in pictures but that was only because it was shallow and sandy right there – the water was that clear! I could picture this being a super fun time in the summer on a boat renting a house for a weekend. There are mostly houses around Torch Lake so we didn’t stop anywhere else and instead headed back down to go into Traverse City.

Arriving into Traverse City – it almost looks like a hokey hotel area right on the outskirts – but I’m sure that caters to the summer crowd influx. As you get closer into the heart of the city I was totally in awe!

There were bike paths and walking paths along Lake Michigan at the bottom of the bay and road a few blocks long of stores, restaurants and gift shops. They did an amazing job of building up the area to make it tourist friendly for people who wanted to see the lake and enjoy their evening. I always wish Lake Erie had something like this!

We ate at a place called Seven Monks and honestly the only thing I remember now is how good the queso was. I shouldn’t even eat queso but I had a few bites and Ricky was in heaven.

We bought a few t-shirts and I oogled over plates I didn’t buy (but got a few months later at the boat show because I never stopped thinking about them) and just walked around.

It’s not a huge downtown area – but it was perfect for a quiet weekend getaway.
